SignalEnsembleData vs SignalShelf: an EnsembleData alternative without daily caps
EnsembleData sells monthly plans with a daily unit allowance. SignalShelf sells credit packs that never expire. Both are synchronous social data APIs; which is cheaper depends on what you call.

Where EnsembleData is stronger
Bulk feeds can be very cheap: TikTok user posts cost 1 unit per 10 posts, YouTube channel videos 1 unit per 10.
All 8 platforms on every tier, a live checkout, and failed requests caused by their errors aren’t charged.
A long track record as a social-only API.
Why switch from EnsembleData
No subscription or daily cap: buy a pack once, credits never expire. EnsembleData’s units reset daily and don’t roll over.
Profile lookups cost less: an Instagram profile is 1 credit with us; EnsembleData lists Instagram detailed user info at 10 units (about $22 per 1k profiles on Wood, by our math).
Key in a header (x-api-key), not in the URL where it can end up in logs.
Wider coverage beyond social: Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Maps, app stores, Amazon, ad libraries.
How to switch
1. Create a free account and API key: 1,000 credits, no card · earn 5,000 more.
2. Map endpoints, e.g. /apis/tt/hashtag/posts → /v1/tiktok/search/hashtag, TikTok user info → /v1/tiktok/profile, Instagram user info → /v1/instagram/profile.
3. Move the token out of the query string into the x-api-key header.
4. Update your parser to our JSON (ScrapeCreators-compatible shapes on /v1 paths).
Anything we don’t serve yet returns a clear error and costs 0 credits, so you can run both side by side while you move over.

Is SignalShelf cheaper than EnsembleData?
For profile lookups and light, uneven usage, usually: no monthly fee, no daily cap, $0.50 to $0.95 per 1,000 credits. For high-volume TikTok or YouTube feed scraping, EnsembleData’s per-10-posts units can be cheaper. Run your mix through both price lists.
Do units or credits expire?
EnsembleData units reset daily at 00:00 UTC (read 3 Nov 2026). SignalShelf credits never expire.
Is SignalShelf faster than EnsembleData?
We haven’t timed EnsembleData, so we don’t claim it. The only provider we have speed-tested is ScrapeCreators: median 1.44 s for us vs 3.96 s for them on 119 endpoints (3 Nov 2026). The method and raw data are on our benchmark page, so you can run the same check against EnsembleData yourself.
